Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Pompeii - Piglrimage from Rome to The Vergin of the Holy Rosary in Pompeii

Italy Pilgrimages

The Shrine of Pompeii " La Madonna del Rosario " is one of the most visited ones all over Italy by the Catholic Pilgrimages.

The Icon of the Blessed Virgin
of the Rosary of Pompeii (120 cm high and 100 cm large) presents the image of Our Lady on the throne holding Jesus in her arms; at her feet, Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena. The Virgin is giving the rosary in her right hand to Saint Catherine, while Jesus, seated on her right leg, is giving it to Saint Dominic.

The devotion to Our Lady of Pompeii
is now widespread all over the world, thanks mainly to the Italian emigrants to whom, before they boarded in the port of Naples, Bartolo Longo gave pictures of Our Lady and Rosaries, Holy cards and booklets of prayers. For this reason, a lot of churches, chapels, and shrines in the world are dedicated to Our Lady of Pompeii.
In the United States there are churches of Our lady of Pompeii in New York, Chicago, East Haven, Kenosha, Brooklyn, Vineland, Lancaster, Tickfaw. There are also in Canada (Montreal), in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Brazil, Venezuela, Uruguay, Malta, Eritrea, Spain. In all of them numerous activities are organized to promote cult and devotion to Our Lady.

In New York, the Parish of “Our Lady of Pompeii”, which dates back to 1892 and is run by the Scalabrinian Fathers, was a point of reference for all the Italians landing in the new world. On the solemn days of the Petition, the Mass is celebrated in Italian, English, Spanish and Filipino.

The Petition to the Queen of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii
:

It was written in 1883 by the Beato Bartolo Longo, founder of the city of Pompeii, of the Shrine with the title of “Act of love towards the Virgin”. It is recited solemnly twice a year, at noon of May 8th and of the first Sunday of October, drawing thousands of Pilgrims coming from all over the World.
