Italy Travels
A typical stereotypes of Italy is that it is the country of food, wine, pizza, spaghetti, motors and churches. We agree on that. We would add that there is a place in Italy where people can enjoy a small corner of lost Eden. This place is immersed in the green of its nature, the splendid sea-coast, the picturesque towns descending from the hills to the sea, the authenticity of its inhabitants, the flavours of the mild Mediterranean weather, a place to relax and literally enjoy life better than anywhere else in Italy. This place is the Amalfi Coast.
The Amalfi Coast, or Costiera Amalfitana in Italian, is a stretch of coastline on the southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula of Italy. The towns lying on the Amalfi Coast are Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Ravello, Scala, Atrani, Amalfi, Ravello, Conca dei Marini, Furore, Praiano, Positano and Sorrento.
Renowned for its rugged terrain, scenic beauty, picturesque towns and diversity, as of 1997 the Amalfi Coast is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
For decades these towns, being fishing villages, stacked precariously above the sea, have been one of Italy's major tourist attractions. Nowadays the area's principal industry is tourism. How can be different? Visitors usually rent a car/van and discover the Amalfi Coast by themselves. That's ok. But we would really like to suggest how, what of to see in the Amalfi Coast, also taking some of our services, advises and, hopefully, useful travel resources.

AMALFI
Amalfi Italy - Amalfi Travel
Amalfi is the main town of the coast on which it is located, named Costiera Amalfitana, and is today an important tourist destination together with other towns on the same coast.
The Amalfi coast is famed for its production of Limoncello liqueur and home-made paper used throughout Italy for wedding invitations, visiting cards and elegant writing paper. The city is home to the Museo della Carta, a paper-making museum.
Events in Amalfi Today:
Three traditional events draw numerous visitors to Amalfi.
1. Feast days of Saint Andrew (25-27 of June, and 30 November), celebrating the city's patron saint.
2. The "Byzantine New Year's Eve" (31 August)
3. The Ancient Regatta (first Sunday in June), a traditional rowing competition among the four Sea Republics: Amalfi, Genova, Pisa, Venice. This event is hosted at every year by a different city, so it comes to Amalfi once every four years.
Rome Travels can accommodate visitors with all related tour services in the Amalfi Coast.

POSITANO
Positano Italy - Positano Travel
The author John Steinbeck wrote on his essay about Positano in Harper's Bazaar in May, 1953 that "It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone". It is exactly how the people feel once in Positano. Indeed, the Campania region is a veritable treasure chest brimful of history and traditions: welcome to Positano.
Without having to move very far from the town of Positano, you can enjoy a starlit night listening to an exclusive concert on the panoramic terraces of Ravello (Villa Rufolo), or explore the beautiful sea beds guided by one of our local guides.
The Legend and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta
The legend refers that in the XIIth cent. a boat which transported a Byzantine framework of the Madonna Assumpted, by furrowing Tyrrhenian sea waters, sailed close to the village of Positano. It reigned there flat calm, when the sailors, the Benedictins monks, heard a voice which said "POSA POSA"... (put it down), coming from the framework of the Virgin Mary. Thus they approached the shore and the town was named after it. The Benedictins took the framework of the Virgin Mary and they carried it in the Church which today is located on the central place of this fishing village.

CAPRI & ISCHIA -
From Positano harbour, boats depart to the Isles of Capri and Ischia. We suggest to depart around 8:30 am, returning in the late afternoon, at approximately 19:00. In addition to the journey across the water, visitors can have one of our guided tours of the islands. Our boats are modern and extremely comfortable, with an open top floor from which the marvellous views across the sea can be seen.

SORRENTO
Sorrento Italy - Sorrento Coast - Sorrento Holiday
Sorrento is a small city and a very popular tourist destination in the Amalfi Coast. The town can be reached easily from Naples and Pompeii, as it lies at the south-eastern end of the Circumvesuviana rail line. The town overlooks the bay of Naples, as the key place of the Sorrentine Peninsula, and many viewpoints in the city allow sight of Naples itself (visible across the bay), Vesuvius and the island of Capri. Naples Sorrento: the Amalfi Drive (connecting Sorento with Amalfi) is the narrow road that threads around the high cliffs above the Mediterranean Sea with plenty of picturesque curves overlooking the blue of the Sea.
Public ferry boats and hydrofoils provide services to Naples, Amalfi, Positano, Capri and Ischia. Sorrento's sea cliffs are impressive and more than beautiful. Our private boat service (hydrofoil) do the same.
In 2007 edition of Top 10 Adventures for Italy, Topworld International ranked Sorrento as number 4. So far in 2008 this town is number 5 on the official list in Topworld.
